Goodyear plans to expand capacity to manufacture HVA tyres at its Uitenhage plant in South Africa, over the next 16 months. The company also plans to shift the production of truck tyres from Uitenhage to Europe or the Middle East.
Goodyear expects to spend US$50m on the project which is likely to complete by the end of 2016 or early in 2017. At present, the company manufactures 10,000 units of industrial, OTR, farm, light and medium truck and passenger tyres per day at Uitenhage.

Goodyear said the expansion will help it to meet the “strong and growing market demand” for HVA consumer tyres in Sub-Sahara Africa and South Africa, TireBusiness reported.
Goodyear South Africa managing director Jean-Jacques Wiroth said: “This is an important investment by Goodyear and is consistent with our strategy to serve the needs of our customers and the company’s focus to invest in high return projects that drive profitable growth.”
