Sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia increased by 10% in September, according to data released by the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee (AEB AMC).

This year’s cumulative total to the end of September stands at almost 2.2m units, 14% up on the same period of last year.

Joerg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee commented: “The hot phase of fast year-on-year growth in Russia is over, for now. On the backdrop of the situation in the rest of Europe however, a 10% increase in sales is a very respectable result.”

Market leader Lada continued to suffer in September with its sales down 1% on last year. However, foreign brands with local production facilities managed big gains including Chevrolet (+21%), Kia (+38%), Renault (+16%), Volkswagen (+17%) and Toyota (+26%).
