Italian motor manufacturer Fiat may have a new Alfa Romeo sports car for the US market by 2002, according to a report in USA Today.

Fiat Chairman Paolo Fresco says that the company has begun discussions with General Motors to sell the Alfa Romeo cars via Cadillac or Saab dealerships. The return to the US for Alfa Romeo, not sold in this market since 1995, is part of the alliance formed with GM four months ago.

Fresco would also like to return the company`s Lancia and Fiat brands to the US, not available since the 1980`s, via its relationship with GM.
