Mitsubishi Motors Europe BV (MME) has taken over the distribution of its light vehicles (passenger cars, SUVs and pickup trucks) in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, following the termination of the distribution agreement with MMC Automobile AG (MAAS), its previous distributor, on December 9th, 2003, in the wake of the collapse of its then-owner, the Erb Group.

A new Swiss company called MME Vertriebsgesellschaft Schweiz AG (MME Schweiz) has been established by MME to perform all marketing, sales, after-sales and ‘back office’ functions. It will eventually employ approximately 35 people.

MME Schweiz will run a dealer network of approximately 210 outlets with the intension to continue as much as possible with the existing dealers – subject to conformity to BER regulations and related requirements. In some locations like Zürich and Geneva, MME Schweiz will also invite new network partners to join, to improve the present network coverage.

In February, dealers from 33 countries will attend the first Mitsubishi Motors European Dealer Event to preview the new Colt, two weeks before its world premiere at the Geneva motor show.

Mitsubishi Motors Europe president & CEO Stefan Jacoby said: “At a time where our European turnaround plan starts bringing some substantial results, we ought to guarantee our long-term development in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Switzerland and Liechtenstein are among our top ten [and] we will give them the tool to remain so, with an efficient organisation and 14 new cars within the next 3 years. By then, they should be in a position to reach 15,000 units.”
