Audi
has built its two millionth diesel car, a 1.2-litre TDI A2, at its Neckarsulm
plant in Germany.
The company, which first offered a diesel engine option in 1978 says that 40
percent of the cars it produced last year – 260,000 – were so equipped.
This increased to 44 percent in the first quarter of 2001.
One out of two Audis registered in both the German and entire western Europe
markets last year had a diesel engine.
