Designed and engineered for the specific requirements and preferences of the European market, and produced at Nissan’s manufacturing plant in Barcelona, the third-generation Navara has a distinctive appearance.
Five trim levels were made available on launch in 2016, ranging from the base level Visia to the Acenta, Acenta+, N-Connecta and top-drawer Tekna. In addition, buyers can choose from King Cab and Double Cab body styles, along with two engine outputs, automatic option and 4WD.

All models come with seven airbags, hill start assist, cruise control and power windows.
The Acenta trim adds a range of exterior and interior design upgrades, including chrome door mirrors, body-coloured front bumper, chrome interior door handles and a chrome grille.
Acenta+ adds larger alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, LED door mirror indicators, climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirrors, leather steering wheel and a colour reversing camera.
NConnecta features a sat-nav and entertainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen, DAB radio, colour reversing camera and smartphone app integration. Recent upgrades for the N-Connecta grade and above include the Nissan Connect entertainment system featuring an eight-inch touchscreen and Apple Car Play. Other new features include smartphone integration, with drivers able to locate the vehicle, lock/unlock the vehicle, check vehicle health (fuel and fluid levels) and send their destination to its sat-nav ahead of departure.

More recently, Nissan added its N-Guard trim level to appeal to those looking for a superior pickup for off-road adventures. Enhancements include a new black finish to the grille, lights, mirrors, door handles, roof rails and wheels. Higher levels of standard equipment include front and rear parking sensors and sunroof. The audible parking sensors combined with a 360-degree camera make parking easier in tight spaces. Inside, the re-styled leather seat base and back inserts have been upgraded with a dark grey and blue design, complemented by blue double stitching. This feature is replicated on the door trim and on the new signature floor mats, which feature a geometric design to match the exterior decals.
Other interior details on N-Guard include chrome interior door handles, foot-well illumination, front armrest, power-adjustable and heated wing mirrors, heated front seats, three 12v power sockets and a single USB socket.
The power-adjustable ‘Spinal Support’ front seats are engineered using technology inspired by NASA. Other creature comforts include dual-zone digital climate control for both King Cab and Double Cab models as well as rear cab ventilation.
The ride inevitably feels different to a passenger car given the high floor and low seat base. That said, two adults will feel quite comfortable sitting in the back with plenty of head and legroom. While the cabin is not awash with cubby holes, it has enough places to store bits and pieces along with two cup holders.
Advanced driver assistance systems
In a sector that has traditionally been slow to adopt the very latest in safety features, the Navara incorporates an Around View Monitor and Forward Emergency Braking ¬ both are unique to the pick-up market. This system uses braking sensors that constantly monitor wheel speed. If one wheel on an axle is detected as spinning faster than the other, braking pressure is briefly applied to slow the faster wheel. The result is improved cornering balance and a more secure feel.
Further ADAS features include Cruise Control, Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist, all of which have been developed to meet the specific demands of Navara owners, as well as keyless entry, rear camera and parking sensors.
On the road
The N-Guard is powered by a 190PS twin-turbo diesel mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox and likes to take things at a leisurely pace. For a commercial vehicle at heart, the Navara offers plenty of interior and safety equipment for your money. Our Double Cab press review came in at just over £37,000. It provides a comfortable ride for all occupants even on long journeys. Its functional cabin with hard-wearing materials is built to survive the rigours of working life on the farm, building site, wilderness or wherever. It also comes with options to make it even more practical and appealing for those who desire it. It can tow as much as the best of them and its tough plastic load bay can accommodate a euro pallet. Rival models include the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi L200.
