A new innovative solution has been developed to tackle the non-presence of hard shoulders on motorways. The new Smart Guardrail solution is to warn drivers on motorways how to react to a road incident before getting into the actual accident zone.

The technology has been tested in large numbers on Abu Dhabi roads, which converted Abu Dhabi roads into smart highways with fractions of the cost usually paid for such a conversion.

The concept of integrating visibility sensors, LED lights, and CCTV cameras into the Road Smart Guard Rail is an interesting idea that could enhance road safety even further.

Visibility sensors could be installed on the guard rail to detect low-light conditions or poor visibility caused by weather conditions. These sensors would then trigger the activation of LED lights embedded in the guard rail. The LED lights would provide additional illumination, making the guard rail more visible to drivers, especially during nighttime or in adverse weather conditions. This increased visibility would help alert drivers to the presence of the guard rail and promote safer navigation of the road.

In addition, the integration of CCTV cameras into the guard rail could provide real-time monitoring and surveillance of the road. These cameras could be strategically positioned along the guard rail to capture footage of the surrounding area, including any potential incidents or accidents. This information can be valuable for both law enforcement and road maintenance teams, as it would aid in incident investigation, traffic management, and identification of potential hazards.

By combining the Road Smart Guard Rail with visibility sensors, LED lights, and CCTV cameras, we could create a comprehensive safety system that not only acts as a physical barrier but also enhances visibility and enables better monitoring and response to road incidents. This integrated approach could significantly improve road safety by providing advanced warnings to drivers, improving visibility, and facilitating prompt action when needed.
