Xpeng Motors officially launched its fourth production model this week, the G9, which the electric vehicle (EV) startup claimed would set a new standard in China’s premium SUV segment.
The automaker, based in Guangzhou, claims the Long Range variant can travel 702km (440 miles) on a single charge while models fitted with standard batteries have a range of up to 570km (350 miles).
Six variants will be offered, including a rear wheel drive model that produces 308hp, accelerates from launch to 100km/h (62mph) in 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 200km/h (120mph).
Three all wheel drive variants will be produced, fitted with dual motor powertrains providing a combined power output of 543 hp.
The G9 uses 800V charging technology which the company claims makes it “the world’s fastest charging mass production SUV”. Its 480 kW supercharging stations are said to provide enough power for 200km (120 miles) in just five minutes and can charge the batteries from 10% to 80% in 15 minutes. The batteries are supplied by local manufacturers CATL, EVE and CALB.
The G9 features smart technology including ADAS with full assisted driving capability using the company’s Navigation Guided Pilot which is said to enable the vehicle to navigate its way automatically through city streets.
