Former Ford CEO Jacques Nasser is seeking a career switch to the IT sector according to reports.
Several media sources say that he has recently been spotted in California’s Silicon Valley high-tech hub and is rumoured to be talking with venture capitalists and assorted IT industry figures. He has reportedly told associates that he hopes to land a role there.
Nasser’s enthusiasm for the Internet when he was at Ford saw the company make substantial investments in high-tech and Internet-based systems, although his critics maintained that the results were disappointing.
Nasser’s vision of a leaner, faster Ford that would transcend unfashionable “rustbelt” imagery and become a global customer services company hard-wired into the new Internet economy, crashed along with the high-tech sector’s crash in 2000. But the reports suggest that Nasser’s Internet enthusiasm is alive and well.
