New product design teams will review up to three-quarters of new General Motors vehicles already under development, Associated Press reported, citing the company’s chairman of North American operations Bob Lutz.

AP quoted Lutz as saying that about a quarter of the new vehicles already in the pipeline will be allowed to proceed, but the rest will be re-evaluated and possibly sent back for retooling or redesign.

Lutz told AP that he and GM North America president Gary Cowger has delayed the launch of “a couple” of vehicles because they required changes and will be given a second look by the new product development structure and other launches could be similarly slowed.

“You’re talking six, $700 million for a car, it’s not going to be done without senior management looking at it,” Lutz told AP.
