Woodward Governor Company (Nasdaq:WGOV – news) has announced that Kawasaki Gas Turbine Division has selected Woodward Industrial Controls to provide the control and fuel metering systems for its (U.S. packaged) GPB-GPC-15X gas turbine genset, which uses Xonon(TM) ultra-low NOx combustion technology.
"As emissions regulations become increasingly stringent, original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs) are searching for combustion control solutions that will
ensure their engines and turbines run as cleanly, cost-effectively, and efficiently
as possible,” said Tom Gendron, Industrial Controls vice president. "Currently,
Woodward is the only company with the patented technology to control the Xonon
catalytic combustion process. This patented technology is an outgrowth of our
Genxon joint venture with Catalytica. Our goal is to become the leading global
supplier of energy control systems for industrial engines, turbines, and power
equipment, and this is one more example of how Woodward’s energy control technology
can help our OEM customers sell more engines.”
John Svendsen, Woodward account manager said, "The Woodward control system
we are providing Kawasaki is the AtlasPC(TM) control system, which leverages
embedded-PC technology to create a more powerful, low-cost, reliable industrial
turbine control. We’re able to offer OEMs a control system that is competitively
priced with general-purpose PLC (programmable logic controller) products and
one that also provides the specific performance, software and simulation tools
required for real-time control of gas turbines.”
