Ford’s announcement to its dealers to reverse an earlier decision to include the Firestone tyre as the default tyre of choice – with both the Goodyear and Michelin brands provided as an option – forms the basis of an exclusive report compiled jointly by just-auto.com and www.BlueOvalNews.com.

Following the US auto-giant’s announcement on the 13th October, 2000 -meaning initially that all 2002 Ford Explorers will be delivered with either Goodyear or Michelin tyres – unless changed by dealers, the report cites a Ford source saying that the primary reason for the action was due to some dealers not being aware of the optional Michelin or Goodyear brands.

The report also quotes both Ford Motor Company Vice President of Communications, Jason Vines, and Goodyear Global Communications Director, Chris Aitken, and their respective opinion to this contentious automotive issue.
