Detroit Diesel Corporation has recalled 200 laid-off workers in recent months to increase production for the Series 60 engine.  Two shifts have resumed and line rates are set at 70 daily for each shift. The 10,000th Series 60 equipped with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is scheduled to be built in April.

“We have received orders from several hundred fleets and the order backlog exceeds 11,000 engines,” said the company’s vice president of on highway engine sales, Mark Bara. “Not only have we resumed two shift operation, we have also gone to nine hour shifts in order to meet the demand.”
