General Motors’ Chevrolet brand is taking a leaf out of German cousin Opel’s book by offering free extras to buyers who pre-order the Cobalt, a new small car that will arrive in dealer showrooms this autumn. The German GM arm recently offered a similar deal prior to the launch of its similarly-sized Astra.

From August 2 to October 18, Chevrolet will include certain options at no extra charge. Customers who pre-order the Cobalt coupe or sedan model will receive a spoiler valued at $US275; those who pre-order the LS model will receive a sunroof valued at $725 and those who pre-order either the LT sedan or SS Supercharged coupe will receive a sunroof and XM Satellite Radio hardware valued at $1,050.

Cobalt production begins in the fourth quarter in Lordstown, Ohio.
