Bridgestone/Firestone said yesterday it would spend $US40 million to expand its factory in Costa Rica, Associated Press (AP) reported.

The upgrade at the company’s facility in La Tribra de Belen, 12 miles (20 kilometres) from the capital San Jose, would take three years and wold eventually allow the factory to employ an additional 400 workers and produce 8,000 tyres daily, AP said.

The expansion would also allow the factory, which currently employs 600 people, to remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Alejandro Cortes, a spokesman for the Nashville, Tennesse-based company, told Associated Press.
