Nexen Tyre plans to build a tech centre in Richfield. The company is expected to break ground for the US$7m facility by end of 2015 or early 2016.

Nexen’s Richfield operations director of technology Don Lee said, “We just signed a contract to purchase the land. We’re expecting it will take nine to 11 months to complete the building. This is a local research and development facility. We develop tyres for North and South America.”

At present, the company has a tech centre on Highlander Parkway in Richfield, where it employs 16 people. Nexen plans to hire 30 people at the new facility, which will be located on the south side of Wheatley Road, Akron Beacon Journal reported. Operations at the new centre are expected to commence in late 2016 or early 2017.
