Latest on GM’s long-running ‘ignition switch’ recall/compensation saga: according to US media reports, bankruptcy judge Robert Gerber has put on hold dozens of lawsuits accusing the automaker of concealing the ignition switch defect while plaintiffs in those cases appeal his earlier ruling that found their cases barred.

Gerber ruled on 15 April GM was protected from claims on vehicles before its 2009 emergence from US Chapter 11 bankruptcy and said plaintiffs would need to file their claims instead against the financially limited ‘Old GM’.

Meanwhile, the fund GM set up for victims and families who suffered death or serious injury in crashes related to the switch defect and consequent power steering/power brake and/or airbag failure has now paid out for 306 claims, including 107 deaths.
