Ford says hybrid sales in the first quarter of the year in the US totalled 21,080 units, a gain of 324% on last year.

The company said that its hybrid sales were boosted by the arrival of new hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. The first quarter was the first quarter in which Ford offered all four of its new hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, including Fusion Hybrid, Fusion Energi, C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi.

Ford also highlighted even stronger growth in hybrid sales in what it sees as key markets – the cities of New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Ford’s electrification manager told just-auto last year that Ford expects that by 2020 some 10-25% of its vehicles sold will be electrified vehicles – pure electric vehicles, hybrids and plug-in hybrids (with the vast majority of that being accounted for by hybrids and plug-in hybrids).
