Geely's Volvo Cars' UK unit has announced updates that add new semi-autonomous and connected car features to various models across the range.
Notable is the introduction of the latest semi-autonomous drive technology, Pilot Assist II, as standard on the XC90. The automaker said the addition was possible thanks to the modular SPA architecture. The system "supports" drivers at speeds of 80 mph in well-marked highway conditions. It gives gentle steering input to keep the car properly aligned within lane markings up to motorway speeds and no longer needs to follow another car.

City Safety is updated on all 90 Series models with the addition of Run-off Road Mitigation, which uses auto-steer to help keep the car on the road. The standard collision-avoidance system, City Safety, has been updated with Large Animal Detection.
Connectivity updates
The automaker's connectivity and driver interface system, Sensus, receives several new native apps including Spotify and Park and Pay. Spotify, the music streaming service, uses the smartphone-style interface Park and Pay finds parking for now but the payment function is not yet offered in the UK.
Connected Service Booking, which allows Sensus workshop booking and reminders, will be added, along with improved Internet Maps, TuneIn, Local Search and Yelp applications. Record & Send, a new voice-recording app, will also be added, enabling drivers to make a voice note that they can send to themselves as reminders.

By GlobalDataThe smartphone app, which allows remote access and control over a wide range of in-car features, receives a substantial update. It already delivers wearable connectivity (Apple Watch/Android Wear), and the new Microsoft Band 2 connectivity now enables voice control for some features when using Windows 10-based smartphones.
Other updates include a calendar integration function that connects a personal calendar to the mobile app, allowing it to send calendar appointment destinations directly to navigation on request. Volvo On Call will now provide support for up to 10 Volvo vehicles, giving access to all the usual functions across a fleet of cars.
Volvo will also introduce Flic button compatibility with On Call. Flic allows a single physical smart button to be programmed to perform several tasks, such as lock or to start/stop pre-heating and can be used as a shortcut to the On Call services.
The automaker now also offers support for Windows 10 with a new version of the On Call app that can be used on PCs and tablets to interact with a car.
