Ford Motor Comp. has ceased production of its Ford Escort motor car, with the last model rolling off the UK`s Liverpool-based production line on Friday (21/7/00).

Production of the Escort at Halewood, which has produced 6 million cars since 1963, will make way for Jaguar cars.

The Escort, which became Britain`s top-selling car within a year of its launch in 1968, notched up British sales totalling 4.6m. The last Escort will be driven off the production line by Ford of Europe Chairman Nick Steele.
