UK engine production rose 2.3% to 2,553,316 units in 2013 – the best tally since 2008.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said growth was due to a 9% increase in demand for the UK domestic market (1,026,050) though exports dipped 1.7% to 1,527,266.
Output rose 3.6% in the fourth quarter, despite a 0.7% fall in December to 149,170.
