With 228 diesel vehicles per 1,000 residents, Austria has the largest share of diesel passenger cars in Europe, a study by Austrian transport industry lobby group Verkehrsclub Oesterreich (VCOe) said, according to the APA-Economic News Service.


Austria was followed by Belgium (195), France (176), Luxembourg (113), Spain (111), Germany (89), Italy (87), The Netherlands (62), Great Britain (62), Ireland (49), Finland (46), Portugal (38), Switzerland (35), Sweden (23) and Denmark (21).
