Turkish commercial vehicle maker Ford Otosan is planning to export between 50,000 and 60,000 Transit Connect light commercial vehicle models in 2002, according to local reports. The shipments will be bound for markets across Europe.

The report also says that Ford Otosan plans to raise the annual capacity of the Kocaeli plant, in northwestern Turkey, to 200,000 vehicles from 150,000 units. The transfer of Transit model production from Ford’s Belgium plant (Genk) to the Kocaeli plant is ongoing.

Ford Otosan is a joint venture between Turkish industrial conglomerate Koc Holding and Ford Motor Company.

The Turkish domestic market has collapsed with the country’s recession this year, but vehicle exports have picked up sharply, reflecting several major OEM investments there.
