Despite all the bumps of late, global automotive production has grown about 4% in 2011 and Bosch Group expects 3-5% growth in 2012, executives said at the Tokyo show this week.

Bosch remains confident sales will top EUR50bn for the first time in 2011, up from EUR47.3bn in 2010. In automotive, it expects business volume of over EUR30bn compared with EUR28.1bn in 2010. In automotive technology alone, Bosch will spend around EUR3.3bn on research and development this year.

This year, the global worker count is expected to grow by 15,000 to about 300,000. In the automotive group, staff will grow by around 10,000 to 177,000.

In Japan, Bosch sales levels YTD are comparable to 2010 despite last spring’s earthquake/tsunami and are expected to reach JPY330bn in 2011. The number of staff in Japan has also remained stable at around 8,000.
