General Motors’ apparent wish that ailing Daewoo Motor solve its labour problems before it agrees a takeover bid does not look like being granted anytime soon.
Now comes a report from Bloomberg News that the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, which includes Daewoo workers, is threatening to visit the U.S. to discuss joint protests against the possible takeover with the powerful United Auto Workers and other metal unions.
The confederation is one of Korea’s largest labour groups and could sending a delegation to the U.S. as early as next week, spokesman Park Ha Soon told Bloomberg News.
The 530,000-member union group will announce its protest plans on Thursday, Park added.
