Reports in the Korean media say that the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and electric car market is set for a growth spurt amid prospects for new government incentives and product introductions.

Hyundai has said it will begin selling its first PHEV Sonata sedan later this year and the government has announced it is considering subsidies for buyers who charge vehicles at home.

Hyundai’s PHEV Sonata is expected to go on sale in Korea between July and September. expects the vehicle will be introduced between July and September. Also, this year is expected to see the market introduction to Korea of the Chevrolet Volt, A3 Sportback e-tron hatchback and VW Golf GTE.

Korean media reports say that the government is currently reviewing options for incentives to encourage the plug-in market.
