Sales of imported vehicles in South Korea jumped by over 42% to 24,366 units in December, from 17,120 units in the same month of last year, according to data released by Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association.

Import sales have continued to grow despite the recall scandal involving the Volkswagen group in recent months. The group is the largest supplier of imported vehicles in South Korea.

Full year sales of imported vehicles increased more than 24% to 243,900 units in 2015, from 196,359 units in 2014.

European brands accounted for 80.9% of total imports last year, with German brands accounting for 68.5% of total import sales.
