According to the Korea Herald, GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co. (GMDAT) is planning to resume car exports to the US market next year. It is also pushing to independently develop a sport utility vehicle model instead of importing a General Motors model, according to sources.

Citing an anonymous official as source, the Herald said that exports to the US – halted in the wake of Daewoo Motor’s takeover by GM – will be resumed in the second half of 2003. The source reportedly said: “A number of GM Daewoo vehicles will be sold in the US market as one of the GM brands.”

The same source also said that GMDAT is ‘determined to build its own SUV model, choosing not to import GM’s SUV models directly into Korea’.
