Singapore has invited electric car manufacturers worldwide to take part in a trial of a major electric-car sharing scheme scheduled to start in early 2016.

The Land Transport Authority and the Economic Development Board have invited car makers to submit proposals for a sustainable business model for the scheme. The trial will involve up to 1,000 electric vehicles and will last 10 years.

Singapore envisions the establishment of a consortium involving electric car makers, car sharing operators and charging infrastructure companies. The deadline for the proposals is 27 February 2015.
