OEM and aftermarket lighting supplier Hella is launching what it claims is the first retro-fit cornering light system which switches on in addition to the low beam, at the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas this week.

The development, billed by its maker as a “revolutionary” answer to the visual challenges of night driving, is called DynaView Evo2. The retro-fit lighting is said to ‘bend’ as drivers turn their vehicles, enhancing night time driving because it is possible to see better when heading into dark curves.

Hella said the system combines the safety functions of both cornering light and fog lamp into a compact, round auxiliary set of lamps which can be retro-fitted to virtually any passenger vehicle.

The system includes two lamps and a transverse acceleration sensor – for yaw rate – which detects the vehicle’s movement through turns.
