Russia’s government is offering Ukraine the opportunity to create a joint venture to develop products supporting Russia’s Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS).
Alexander Gurko, the CEO of Russia’s Navigation and Information Systems (NIS), which is the federal operator of GLONASS reportedly made the offer this week.
GLONASS is Russia’s alternative to the US Global Positioning System (GPS) and the EU’s future Galileo positioning system.
“We offer our partners cooperation in all areas, including joint development of products, systems for Ukraine, Russia, as well as for export to other countries,” Gurko said at a Russian–Ukrainian economic forum attended by Russian and Ukrainian presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Viktor Yanukovich.
