GM–AvtoVAZ has said in a statement that it plans to switch back to a two shift workday starting September 21 from a one shift workday currently.

GM–AvtoVAZ attributed its plans to growing demand and an increase in the production plan for 2010. The firm currently produces Chevrolet Niva sport utility vehicles. In 2009, the joint venture’s vehicle output decreased by almost 60% on the year to 23,101 units.

The depleted Russian car market has sparked into life this year on the back of a scrappage incentive that has lifted sales of domestically produced cars.
