The Russian government may indefinitely suspend the introduction of Euro-2 emission standards for cars imported to Russia, a customs source told Prime-Tass.

The government planned to introduce Euro-2 emission standards for imported cars on 1 September. However it will have to suspend the introduction of the standards, as certifying bodies are still not able to handle all the car imports into the country, the source said.

Russia’s Industry and Energy Ministry, Interior Ministry and the Federal Customs Service are drafting a joint ruling on the introduction of Euro-2 emission standards for imported cars, the source added.
