AvtoVAZ has started supplying car sets to Chechnya. The first shipment of 16 car sets for Lada-2107 cars to be assembled in Argun was made last week.
Itar-Tass said that assembly operations in Argun are expected to begin in early May 2008. According to a preliminary plan, 500 such car sets will be supplied to Chechnya in 2008 and their number will increase in the future.
Seventy employees from the plant in Argun are currently undergoing training at AvtoVAZ.
The automobiles to be made in Chechnya were presented in its capital of Grozny earlier this month. The republic will make a Lada-2107 car and a Niva-based small-duty truck.
Under an agreement signed by and between AvtoVAZ and the government of Chechnya in January 2008, the republic will assemble automobiles and make 70 percent of components for them.
