South Korea’s Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company Ltd celebrated the approach of its 30th anniversary this week with the announcement that it is rebranding as Tata Daewoo Mobility, according to local reports. The company was originally founded in 1995 as Daewoo Commercial vehicle Company.
The Gunsan-headquartered company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian automaker Tata Motors Ltd – which acquired control of the company in 2004, confirmed it is looking to “re-image” itself from a traditional manufacturer of commercial vehicles to become a leader in future mobility solutions.
Tata Daewoo said the next phase of growth will be driven by the launch of next-generation products, including the launch in the first half of 2025 of its first battery-powered truck, the medium-duty “Gixen” range. The company said it also aims to increase the profitability of its internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and increase overall production from 9,500 vehicles in 2023 to 10,000 in 2024 and 14,000 by 2028.
The Gixen will be powered by a to 300 kWh high-capacity battery pack providing a range of up to 480km, driven by an electric powertrain generating a maximum output of 250 kW (335hp) and 862 Nm of peak torque.
