Tesla chief executive Elon Musk has said the automaker would invest in India after talks with prime minister Narendra Modi, who is on a state visit to the US.

Musk told Reuters: “He [Modi] really cares about India because he’s pushing us to make significant investments in India, which is something we intend to do.

“I am confident that Tesla will be in India and will do so as soon as humanly possible.”

Tesla previously had plans to open in India but these were shelved due to high import taxes.
