Nissan’s Mexican unit has said it looks to triple purchases from domestic manufacturers to US$7bn by 2016.

According to RubberNews.com, Nissan Mexicana has also opened the Douki Seisan Park for its suppliers in Aguascalientes.

The US$57m park is on 682,000 sq yards of land and is being built next to the automaker’s light vehicle assembly facility in the state. Five buildings have been planned for the site, of which three are complete. Companies such as auto parts maker Sanoh Industrial and automotive seat maker Tachi-S, both Japan-based, have their manufacturing operations in these three buildings.

Nissan said over 80% of the content of the Sentra sedan is made in Mexico. The company assembles the sedan in Aguascalientes and exports it to the US and Brazil.
