Mexico’s motor industry produced 117,799 vehicles in February, down 8.9% from the same month in 2003, the Mexican Automotive Industry Association reported.

According to Reuters, exports by Mexico-based carmakers totalled 87,459 units in February, down 8.6% from the same month last year.

Mexico is the 10th-largest vehicle producer in the world but production has been hit in the last couple of years by weaker demand in the United States, its major export market. Output last year was 1.5 million vehicles, down 13.2% from 2002, the report said.
