According to Mexico’s auto industry trade association, Mexico’s vehicle production increased by 4% in 2008 to 2.1m units.

The rise was driven by increased exports to Canada, Europe and other Latin American countries which helped offset lower shipments to the US.

However, AMIA president Eduardo Solis predicts Mexico’s production could fall 20% in 2009.

Mexico produced 2,102,801 light vehicles in 2008.

Exports were up 2.5% to 1,665,133 units in 2008.
