Mercedes-Benz says it is the first truck manufacturer to bring the Apple CarPlay infotainment system into its vehicles.

Apple CarPlay is available in conjunction with the Multimedia Radio Touch radio system in current models of Mercedes-Benz Actros, Antos and Arocs and allows the driver to safely use the iPhone and a variety of apps while on the move.

For maximum compatibility with Android smartphones, the Multimedia Radio Touch can also be used with ‘MirrorLink’ – the counterpart to Apple CarPlay.

Four menus are available to the driver via the Multimedia Radio Touch. They can may choose between radio, media, call or connect menu. As soon as the driver chooses the connect menu and connects his smartphone via the USB slot, a selection of apps will be displayed via CarPlay or MirrorLink.

With Apple CarPlay, the following apps are available to the driver: Telephone, music, maps, news, iTunes, podcasts and audio books, as well as further accredited apps. Drivers can also control the connect menu via Siri and can safely make telephone calls while driving.

They can equally navigate from the point of departure to the destination via the Apple maps app, by using the voice command.

Using MirrorLink, drivers with Android smartphones can use the Multimedia Radio Touch radio system as well. As soon as the driver connects his smartphone with the MirrorLink by the connect menu they will be able to access apps. On the dashboard display of the radio system, they can see and use apps via touchscreen.
