Volkswagen Group’s Audi unit has informed DRB-Hicom that it intends to take back soon the responsibility for wholesale/distribution of its cars in Malaysia.
DRB-Hicom’s head of automotive operations Datuk Radzaif Mohamed said that it was part of the original agreement with Audi in 2009 that the German company would eventually want to take control of distribution and that this had been planned for by his company.
He said that DRB-Hicom, which controls Proton and assembles and distributes cars also for Honda, Isuzu, Suzuki and Mahindra, plans to add other brands to its portfolio and that it will continue to manage Audi dealers.
