Lotus Robotics and CaoCao Mobility have unveiled what it claims to be China’s first fully autonomous driving platform for robotaxis.
The collaboration brings together Lotus Robotics’ self-driving technology and ride-hailing expertise of CaoCao Mobility, which is backed by Chinese automotive giant Geely.
The platform features a fully customised car, complete unmanned autonomous driving, and fully automated operations.
A successful pilot programme in Suzhou and Hangzhou has demonstrated the system’s safety and reliability, with over 13,545km driven in test areas without human intervention.
In a press statement, Lotus Robotics said: “Lotus Robotics and CaoCao Mobility will continue operating across both cities in China, as it looks to refine the vehicle-road-cloud integration model, blending vehicle intelligence with infrastructure to address persistent challenges including unexpected pedestrian crossings.”
This announcement follows Lotus Robotics’ partnership with Aramco Digital, exploring the implementation of robotaxis in the Middle East.
The latest move marks a major step in Lotus Robotics’ global expansion, offering businesses a full suite of autonomous software and services for safe, secure, and efficient self-driving technology deployment.
Lotus Robotics’ offerings include ROBO Soul, a full self-driving software stack adaptable to any vehicle and environment, capable of up to level 4 autonomy.
ROBO Galaxy, a cloud-based toolset, supports ROBO Soul by managing and analysing data to enhance autonomous fleet efficiency and accessibility.
ROBO Matrix provides real-time monitoring for improved remote safety and AI-driven environmental learning.
The company’s latest advancements feature urban road navigation without map reliance, high navigation precision for complex driving tasks, and smart obstacle avoidance.
These technologies are operational in China, with a global rollout expected by Q4 2025, subject to regional regulations.
