World Markets Research Centre reports that the Honda Fit lost its position at the top of the Japanese car market to the Toyota Corolla in February. The Fit had previously taken the top spot from the Toyota Corolla for the first time in 34 years in 2002.

According to figures released by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association (JADA), the Corolla recorded sales of 20,119 units in February, surpassing the Honda Fit’s sales of 19,055 units for the first time in five months.

Toyota’s Wish minivan came in third place with 16,208 units after its release in January. Toyota had six entries in the top 10 in total in the month. Nissan’s Cube and March models ranked fourth and fifth, with sales of 13,125 units and 13,006 units respectively. Mazda was the only other entrant in the top 10, with its Demio in the eighth spot.
