Honda on Tuesday said it would promote its executive vice president Satoshi Aoki to chairman and has nominated senior managing director Koichi Kondo to replace Aoki as executive vice president in its upcoming management reshuffle.

According to Kyodo News, Aoki is expected to become chairman of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association when the term of Fujio Cho, current chairman of the association, expires in May 2008. Cho is also chairman of Toyota Motor.


The new top management appointments of Honda will take effect after approval at this year’s regular shareholders meeting in June, the automaker added.


Kyodo News noted that the Honda chairman’s post has been vacant since June 2004 when former incumbent Yoshihide Munekuni stepped down.


President and chief executive officer Takeo Fukui will remain in his current posts, the company said, according to Kyodo News.
