The International Engine of the Year 2000 accolade, part of the International Engine of the Year Awards 2000, was presented to Honda for its Insight coupe model.
The event, sponsored was by Engine Technology International magazine, was in recognition for the coupe`s ability to combine exceptional fuel economy alongside performance, according to the 34-strong judging panel.
The coupe, which boasts a top speed of 110 mph and acceleration from 0-100km/h in only 12 seconds, has the potential to use just three litres of fuel per 100km.
Other awards presented, including `Best 2.5 to 3 litre` and `Best 3 to 4 litre` engine categories, went to BMW for its latest generation common-rail direct-injection diesels for the second year running.
