Iran’s leading vehicle maker Iran Khodro (IKCO) has said that it produced over 680,000 cars and pick-ups in the year March 21, 2009 to March 20,2010, some 16% ahead of the previous year and setting a new record.

Peugeot models figured prominently in the breakdown by model range:

  • Peugeot 405 = 174,477 units
  • Bardo pickups = 116,580 units
  • Peugeot 206 = 114,886 units
  • Samand = 105,161 units
  • Peugeot Roa = 54,346 units
  • Tondar 90 = 7,847 units
  • Grand Vitara = 3,920
  • Others = 270

Seyyed Javad Dehnadi, IKCO vice president in production affairs said: “Setting the record of 680,008 units indicates the efforts and ambition of IKCO workers, experts and managers to have a strong and active presence in domestic and global automobile markets.”

He also said that IKCO is aiming to build 780,000 units this year.

IKCO also says it intends to produce 20,000 sets of Peugeot 207i in the current Iranian year (Mar 21, 2010 – Mar 20, 2011) for both domestic and global markets. The car is offered in two body variants – hatchback and sedan.

Permission from Peugeot to export the 207 from Iran could be a controversial area.

IKCO says that ‘there have been talks between IKCO and Peugeot on exporting this product, however, the markets have not been determined yet and the two parties are negotiating the issue’.
