New vehicle sales in Indonesia increased by 8.2% to 111,765 units in February, compared with 103,278 units a year earlier, according to data released by industry association Gaikindo.

The recent launches of low-cost green cars (LCGCs), including the Toyota Agya, Daihatsu Ayla, Suzuki Wagon R and Honda Brio Satya, helped lift the market to near record levels last month.

These models have softened the impact on the market of higher interest rates, a weak rupiah and a moderate slowdown in overall economic growth. In the first two months of 2014, cumulative vehicle sales increased by 7.6% to 215,262 units, from 199,996 units a year earlier.
