New vehicle sales in Indonesia declined by 34.4% in May to 32,500 units, compared with 49,561 units a year earlier, according to preliminary data released by PT Toyota Astra Motor – Toyota’s local distributor.
Sales in the first five months of the year are estimated to have declined by close to 28% to 170, 238 units, from 235,245 units a year earlier.
Toyota’s sales fell by 16.2% year-on-year to 67,249 units in the five-month period, compared with 80,223 units a year earlier. Sales of its Dyna light/medium truck range and its Hilux pickup truck have suffered most, followed by 4×4 SUVs.
