Tata Motors has launched a new range of public transport minibuses for use on local routes in Indonesia’s main cities by the end of March.
The Indian automaker, which entered Indonesia in the fourth quarter of last year, is taking on long established brands in this segment such as Suzuki and Daihatsu.
The company is using its existing pickup truck chassis and converting them locally into local public transport vehicles.
Tata Motor Indonesia said it had orders for 300 such minibuses from the Tangerang municipality, near Jakarta, and that other municipalities in and around Jakarta are considering additional purchases of the vehicles.
