Indonesian exports of built-up vehicles are projected to increase by over 30% to around 74,000 units in 2010, according to data released by the industry association Gaikindo.
Exports volumes in 2009 fell by 43% to 56,669 units in 2009, from 100,982 units in the previous year, as the global financial crisis reduced demand in key export markets.
The association predicts that exports to neighbouring countries in South-east Asia will be key to future growth thanks to be ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (AFTA), which limits import duties to 5% on vehicles which meet minimum local content requriements.
